Staying in an Alaskan backcountry setting no longer means the cuisine has to suffer. Over the years, our palate has developed and as a result, so have the dishes we offer in the North Face Lodge dining room. We incorporate high-quality ingredients to prepare wholesome, delicious, and attractive meals. We grow much of our own produce organically in the greenhouse and raised beds at North Face Lodge. Our kitchens and bakery take pride in creating foods that will nourish and energize you during your stay.
Your hosts and naturalist guides join you at 7:30 a.m., for breakfast summoned by ringing of the breakfast bell. We start the morning with a breakfast bar of whole-grain hot cereal, homemade granola, cold cereals, homemade yoghurt, raisins, and nuts. The hot breakfast entrée, plated and served from the kitchen, may include an herb and goat cheese egg souffl'e with vegetable-potato hash, Dutch-oven pancakes with lingonberry sauce and alder-smoked bacon, or Spanish egg and potato frittata with cheddar-herb scones.
Following breakfast, we set out an elaborate spread of lunch fixings including home-baked bread, sandwich fillings, vegetables, fruits, trail mixes and fresh cookies for a make-your-own sack lunch. Whether on a guided hike or paddling across Wonder Lake, there is no need to return to the lodge for lunch.
Camaraderie and recounting of the day's events enhance the fine cuisine at the day's final meal. Served at 6:30 p.m., we start with fresh salad or soup and bakery bread, followed by an inspired entrée of meat or fish. A vegetarian option is also available at each evening meal. To complete the meal, we offer another taste of our baker's handiwork-a dessert from the tundra in a berry torte, or a rich flourless chocolate cake, perhaps.
North Face Lodge is far from lines of supply. We do our best to meet diet requirements that are directly related to a serious health issue or food allergy. When notified in advance, we are able to accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets as well as most food allergies.
In our experience, guests who have other dietary needs or preferences are able to self-regulate by choosing among the options we provide. If your diet or allergy requires our kitchen staff to provide special food, please be mindful of our effort and adhere to your dietary requirements during your stay.
North Face Lodge does not have a liquor license; however, you are welcome to bring your own.
